So this came up online again - as it tends to every year or so - and I got to wondering how it ever got made. And I found an interview with the brilliant actor who did it, Mike Kraft:

Thank goodness they finally got that side-fumbling under control, it was really interfering with the magneto-reluctance of my fluxes' linear-phase detractors.
